Introducing Repeal Day!
If you're anything like me, you sometimes find yourself in situations where you realize just how much we take for granted the incredible access we have to so much world-class beer (and wine and liquor). Not only the depth of options on our shelves but the ease in which we can go about buying the alcohol we want. That usually happens when I'm stuck in some remote location with no decent beer on the shelf, or God forbid, in a dry county. That's bad enough - it's hard for me to comprehend that not that long ago, Americans lived under the 18th Amendment, where the making, transportation, and selling of alcohol was completely illegal nationwide.
Maybe you knew, and perhaps you didn't, but December 5 is "Repeal Day" - the day we pay homage to that oh-so-blessed day back in 1933 when we got off our collective asses and finally repealed Prohibition with the passage of the Twenty-first Amendment. Plus, it's nice to have another holiday between Thanksgiving and Christmas, where we can justify drinking.
To pay homage to that oh-so-blessed day, and to remind us how lucky we have it, I decided to design a glass to mark and remember December 5, 1933.
About the design
I decided to focus the design on one of the most iconic Repeal Day photos. We get to look back in time at a group of patrons gathering in their favorite bar to share some drinks to celebrate and usher in a new chapter in American history. This photo is my favorite because there's so much awesome encapsulated in one shot: the bartender throwing his hands in the air, people dressed to the nines, the big man in the front already looking just a little bit drunk - what's not to love? There are few things purer.
The photo is stylized and printed in solid black, enclosed within a gold frame. Beneath the picture is the infamous date - December 5, 1933. I chose the gold-halo Nordic Cooler because it's got just enough class to celebrate this special day, but also just simple enough to remind us to appreciate what we have.
Glassware Information
Arc Nordic Cooler - 17 oz. Capacity
The Arc Nordic Cooler is a solid "go-to" glass for just about any style of beer; however, it's most known for being perfect for IPAs and Pale Ales. It has a higher capacity (17 ounces) than most glasses, which means it's going to fit that 16 oz tallboy easily with enough room for a nice head. The Nordic Cooler feels excellent in your hand (it's hard to explain, but as soon as you pick it up you'll understand), and is unique enough to stand out while being subtle enough to sneak some water in (I won't tell anyone).
Glassware Care
Here is a guide I wrote that details the best way for you to clean your glassware properly.
I do not recommend putting these glasses in the dishwasher. Hand wash with soap and water and let them air dry. If you don't, there is a chance the gold will flake or come off. These glasses contain precious metals, so never place them in the microwave.
